PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:
-
Inquiry-Based Curriculum– Through exposure to important and relevant content anchored in academic standards, students develop and explore questions that lead them to solve real-world problems.
-
Project-Based Curriculum– Students create projects or products that represent their understanding of challenging content and provide solutions to relevant, real-world problems. Ramsey offers a project-based intercession between semesters.
-
Integration across academic disciplines – Students study challenging, real-world problems through integration of two or more content disciplines.
-
Using arts and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to deliver a challenging curriculum – providing a unique window for students to gain content knowledge, solve problems through the creative design process and build critical skills.
-
Through the use of simulated global challenges, students will utilize the engineering design process, scientific inquiry and mathematical skills (STEM skills) to solve problems.
-
Our Arts Integration Specialist collaborates with classroom teachers identifying core content learning targets that could be taught and enhanced through visual, spatial, kinesthetic and creative exploration. The "Arts Integration" lessons periodically take place during the core content classes and are designed to access students' prior knowledge in that subject area while promoting creativity, individual expression and interdisciplinary connections.
-
Social-emotional support which includes a daily advisory with the Circle of Power and Respect, teaching pathways to self-control, explicit social skills instruction through the Second Step curriculum, and fostering a culture of trust among students and adults.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: Strong grade-level interdisciplinary teams comprised of math, humanities, language A, science teachers and a dean work together to support the needs of our adolescent learners. Elective and advisory teachers work closely with the team to coordinate work and address student concerns. Parents receive grade reports four times a year, and many teachers also provide weekly feedback through student planners. Parents may access student grades on the Parent Portal, which is just one more way we increase communication between home and school. Parent involvement is a priority.
EXTENDED-DAY ACTIVITIES: Minneapolis Kids School Age Care with middle school programming, academic support programs, student council, Girls in Engineering, Math and Science (GEMS), Guys in Science and Engineering (GISE), middle school athletics (volleyball, flag football, boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball).
