MIDDLE SCHOOL: Our middle school consists of approximately 240 students who spend fifteen minutes each day in a morning advisory meeting that sets the tone for developing a respectful culture and establishes a climate of trust. All middle school students receive instruction in the core content areas including English/language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. We offer support to students who need help reaching grade level in mathematics and reading. There are also classes offered to support accelerated learning in courses such as Critical Reading and online math. Nellie Stone Johnson is a certified AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) site, which means that students receive support to help them reach their secondary and post-secondary academic goals. This small school atmosphere affords our students a chance to develop relationships with teachers and their peers. We value parents as part of their child's support system in school.
EXTENDED-DAY ACTIVITIES: Beacons program which includes: reading, mathematics, media/technology, creative arts/technology, America Reads, Double Dutch, drumming, martial arts, tutoring and middle school sports.
