Highlights:

• Project SUCCESS works within English (Language A) classes to help students think about career aspirations through the use of drama. They provide direction for a schoolwide musical at the end of the year that is student driven and fantastic
• RBC Wealth Management is our generous business partner that provides classroom support, mini-grants for teachers, tutoring and a $10,000 academic college scholarship for an eligible grade 8 student at the end of each year
• Students participate in local, state and national spelling and geography bees, History Day competitions and Model UN in Spanish and English
• Family events for both parents and students help build understanding and generate opportunities for students to share what they are learning, such as portfolio night, a community garden, the Taste of Anwatin, which includes the Anwatin Community Arts and Crafts Fair, Empty Bowls choir and band concerts, soups and games night and more
• Anwatin offers engaging after-school academic activities such as math and Wii, Mathalicious (Grade 6) Chick Lit and Chatter, chess club, cross country skiing, soccer, jazz band (in the morning), Rocketry Space, Cafe Mocha school newspaper, yoga, Ultimate Frisbee, mural project, tutoring and more.
• We offer AVID classes to help students prepare for college and we support them by teaching organization skills, college readiness and preparation for advanced courses
• We have a new partnership with Metro State University and their Urban Education program. We will have student teachers who are dedicated to urban education working with our skilled staff to help with academics
• Our grade 8 humanities teacher was named Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Junior Achievement organization for the 2010-2011 school year
