PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Reduced class sizes grades K-5
  • Technology used as a tool for learning with computers in all classrooms; our inventory includes: a technology lab and a wireless computer lab for classroom technology; Promethean boards in most classrooms; and writing instruction.

  • Social skills classes provided by a behavior support team; friendship and focus groups through the school counselor; homework support, an advisory class where students check in for the day, participation in Responsive Classroom morning meeting components, once a week extended class that focuses on Second Step, a social skills curriculum.
  • A focus class for grades 7-8, culminating in History Day, science projects/displays, etc.
  • Grades Pre-K-4 wear navy tops and khaki bottoms. Grades 5 -8 wear black tops and khaki bottoms.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: Andersen United Community School’s middle school is designed to support students academically, behaviorally and culturally. Our middle school is specifically designed with grade level learning teams. Each team has a teaching expert in reading, social studies , English language arts, math, science, English as a Second Language and special education services. Students in grades 6-7 can choose a bilingual social studies class. Extra attention is paid to literacy. The school offer girls volleyball, and both boys and girls softball and basketball. We are developing an outdoor classroom where middle school students can study a variety of academic subjects. Our after-school debate team competes within and outside the district.

EXTENDED DAY ACTIVITIES: After-school and Saturday youth activities in areas such as arts, computers, life skills and sports; Math Masters; Evening Community Education. Extra curricular sports include: Volleyball, Flag Football, Boys/Girls Basketball, Softball and Baseball.
