Additional Special Education Services

Additional special education services:
 
• Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) serves students from birth to kindergarten identified as having a Developmental Delay (DD) or other disability. Screening for ECSE evaluation is available by calling 612.668.3715 Eligibility is determined through evaluation by Minneapolis Public Schools. ECSE services are offered in the community, homes, child care sites and schools throughout the school district. Current locations: Armatage, Bryn Mawr, Cityview Hmong Academy, Jefferson, Sullivan, Webster and Wilder.
 
• Transition Plus is a program for 18- to 21-year-old students within the Minneapolis Public Schools. Transition Plus provides a variety of instructional services and training to young adults who are eligible for special education transition services. All special education services fall into three areas of transition: employment, living independently, and preparing for/accessing post-secondary education/training. Students must have identified educational needs in one or more of the three transition areas in order to enroll and have typically completed four years in a high school setting prior to enrolling.
 
• Coordinated Learning for Academic and Social Success (CLASS) is a program serving students in grades three to eight who require more intensive special education services for 60 – 100% of the day due to significant discrepancies from grade-level peers in most or all academic skills. The CLASS programs are tailored to meet individual needs and generally include a focus on basic academic skills. Some students may also have language, social skills or behavioral goal areas on their Individual Education Plan (IEP). Students participate in general education classes appropriate for their age and skill level. Current locations: Andersen, Anthony, Cityview, Franklin, Kenwood, Northeast, Olson, Pillsbury and Sullivan.
 
• Life Skills is a cross-categorical program for high school students, grades 9-12, who require more intensive special education services than can be provided in federal settings I or II. Typically, the students served in this program have special education disability designations of Students Needing Alternative Programming (SNAP), Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), or Mild Developmental Cognitive Disability (Mild DCD). Some students may also have behavior needs in addition to their primary academic disabilities. Generally, students in this program are significantly discrepant from peers academically and students’ academic skills are below grade level in multiple areas. Current locations: Edison, Henry, Roosevelt, South and Southwest.
