PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Environmental Focus: S.T.E.M. classes, outdoor classrooms, two school gardens, plant grow labs, Foss Science kits, Project Wild- Environmental Science curriculum, Green Team • Project R.O.T. lunchroom waste recycling program, Tree Trust, Minnesota DNR - School Forest Designation - Site landscape plan represents the four biomes of Minnesota
  • Partnerships: St. Catherine's University: Eco STARs, REI, and the Science Museum
  • Technology: SMARTBOARDS and document cameras in every classroom; two computer labs
  • Teachers provide rigor within curriculum by differentiated learning activities. Small group guided reading instruction based on individual needs. Staff is committed to professional growth with weekly study groups focused on literacy, writing and math
  • Gained 11 percentage points in Reading (MCAII) and received “notable performance” by our district for reading progress
  • Reading Corps: Reading tutors for K-3 grade students
  • Adequate Yearly Progress: Seven consecutive years making (AYP) in math
  • Specialists: STEM, Art, Music, Physical Education, Media/Technology, Art Adventure, Arts for Academic Achievement
  • Expanded Classroom: Fourth grade overnight trip to YMCA Camp Widjiwagan; fifth grade camping trip in the spring
  • Student recognition: Student of the Month, End-of-the-year Award Ceremony, and monthly bilingual school newsletter
  • Strong parent involvement: Active PTA, Read-a-thon, Spring Festival and plant sale

EXTENDED-DAY ACTIVITIES: Community Education Classes: Peace Leaders, MAD Science, Every Day Leaders, Young Naturalist, Green Team, Learning Garden, Spanish, art, chess, media math, Math Masters, poetry/creative writing, bookmaking, Future Problem-Solvers Team, Cub Scouts, team sports, soccer, hip-hop dance, snow shoe, ski club, and yoga.
