MIDDLE SCHOOL: Northeast Middle School offers the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) to all enrolled students. The IB MYP is not a set curriculum; rather, it provides a framework and philosophy for the curriculum that is required by Minneapolis Public Schools and the State of Minnesota Department of Education. Using the state and national standards that have been developed for each content area, and the IB MYP Subject Criterion, we have created a course of study for all students at Northeast. IB MYP programme guidelines call for all students to explore their world through eight academic content areas, including a focus on one of three world languages (French, Chinese or Spanish).

EXTENDED-DAY ACTIVITIES: We are committed to supporting the whole child in fully developing his/her talents, and because of this, we have an extensive before-school and after-school program. Northeast teachers lead the groups, along with community volunteers, and more than half of the Northeast students are enrolled in one or more programs. Our offerings range from cultural and artistic to academic and athletic: MPS Middle School Competitive sports, intramural sports, Young Women of Excellence, My Point, Fun With Cooking, Chess Club, Arts and Crafts, Double Dutch, BEST Cars, Theater, Future City, peer math tutoring, dance, sports, Yearbook Club, Service Club, Girls Group, Latino Club, GEMS and GISE, Spanish-speaking academic help, design technology, drama, web page design, tutoring and MCA III state standards test preparation, everyday leaders. Parent Involvement Opportunities: Family Involvement Group (FIG), CPEO, Building Leadership Team, tutoring and chaperoning, our parents have several levels of involvement. They are leaders, learners, fundraisers, tutors, seamstresses, photographers, field-trip chaperones, and cheerleaders, encouraging our students.
