Middle Schools
Classroom Boy

Students who are enrolled in a MPS K-5 elementary school and live in the schools’ attendance zone have a space reserved for them at their “pathway” or community middle school. Parents do not need to fill out a School Request Card.

Please note:

  • If your child is enrolled in a K-8 program and you want to stay there, you do not need to fill out a School Request Card.
  • If you are interested in a middle school other than your pathway or your current K-8 school, or you live outside the attendance zone of your current K-5 school, you must complete a printed or online School Request Card and return it by February 19, 2013.

To receive transportation to your pathway middle school, you must currently live in the attendance area of that middle school. If you have questions about which middle school is in your attendance area, contact Student Placement Services at 612.668.1840 or enter your address.

Note: In Zone 1, Sheridan students will select middle schools based on home address due to the school’s new designation as a K-5 program–a change from its K-8 program status.

School Pathways
  • Students who are enrolled in a district K-5 elementary school have a space reserved for them at their pathway school, if they reside within their school's attendance zone.
  • Students, residing outside their school's attendance zone, have a space reserved for them at their community middle school.
  • Students residing outside their school's attendance zone and wanting to follow the middle school pathway of their current school, must submit a school request card.
Middle Grades Highlights

As part of Minneapolis Public Schools’ strategic planning process, efforts have been stepped up to have every child college ready. Part of this goal is to provide students with a seamless transition from the middle grades to high school, and then to college.
